ANYONE can become active!

 

I don’t want anyone out there, no matter what kind of shape you are in or if you haven’t moved in a long time, to think that fitness is out of your grasp.  At 5’3″ after having 2 kids back to back (18 months apart) via C-section no doubt and leading pretty much a sedentary lifestyle I had ballooned up to 170lbs.  I’ll look for a picture but there aren’t many full body ones of me out there as I would hide my body behind the kids of my husband and only my face would show.  It was not pretty but more than looks was the way I felt, low energy, there’s a permanent dent in the corner of my sectional from my butt…I was a stay at home couch potato!  Diabetes runs in my family as well as heart disease and I was well on the road to that and a slew of other health related problems.  I didn’t want to model kind of lifestyle for my 2 daughters so when my 2nd turned 1 and the fact that we were going to New York for a graduation was coming up in 2 months.  I would be damned if I strolled the streets of Manhattan looking and feeling so terrible so I made a conscious decision to do something about it!  I had limited time and resources but what I could do is: make sure I had breakfast, watch my portion sizes, started working out with 20-30 minute videos on ON DEMAND while the girls napped at least 3-4x’s per week, and cut out night time snacking( I love pretzels and cheesy crackers).  Before I knew it, I had dropped 15lbs. and could comfortably fit into a size 8, which before my journey I was fooling myself into thinking I was a 10 when in actuality I was more like a 12!!!  By the time I went to NY I felt a little better but most of all I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment in the fact that I was taking matters into my own hand.  There are pitfalls along the way as I will cover in my next note and also on my website, www.jessiesfitclub.com but what is most important to remember is to just get up and move and to do it on a consistent basis!  Starting off with 3 days a week for 20-30 minutes WILL lead to more if you just keep it up, once you start seeing the results it will encourage you to do more!  I had a pair of size 28 pants that wouldn’t even go over my thighs, I would keep those pants out and try them on weekly, and they were a great motivator.  I used this as a measurement of success more so than the scale and I encourage you to do the same! ANYONE can do this, if you have health concerns, go to the doctor and get cleared for exercise, I’m positive they would be thrilled at your new pursuit for physical fitness.  Besides, who wants to join the widespread and dramatic rise of chronic disease in America?  Not me!
